You don't have to head straight to Tokyo. Several worthwhile spots are within 30–40 minutes of the airport — great for a layover or a half-day before check-in.
-
Naritasan Shinshoji Temple
A 1,080-year-old temple complex with gardens, pagodas, and the famous Omotesando approach lined with eel restaurants and traditional shops. One of Japan's most visited temples.
-
Japan Aviation Museum (Koku Kagaku Hakubutsukan)
A hands-on aviation museum with a real Boeing 747 you can walk through, a flight simulator, an airport diorama, and views of aircraft movements. Great for families and aviation fans.
Layover tip: Allow at least 5 hours total if you want to leave the airport. Budget time for both directions plus immigration/customs on return.
